Perfect night in Sewanee, 74º calm winds, the track was a ghost ship.
I did race pace tonight, 250s, and a 350. Splits were closer to optimum but it didn't feel as easy as it should so, I may not race a 400m this weekend.
Hoka trainers on
stretches, drills, bands, 3 x 100m, roller
100m - 13.69
250m - 33.93 (26.79, 7.14)
250m - 34.10 (26.93, 7.17)
350m - 50.10, (27.50, 14.67, 7.93 / 42.17, 7.93)
The 250s were ok. Was watching the last 50m carefully and they were ok, extrapolating to a mid 14s third 100, and a mid 41s 300m. However, the last 350m was way short of goal. I wanted to break 49 and although I had some left at the end, I was headed for a low 58 at that pace. It was at the end of the workout but still. I was running splits that would extrapolate to 27.5, 30.7... or about 58.2. Not fast enough. The 27.50 was too relaxed and conservative, the last 100m, not up to pace. I need 27 / 30 or better.
So, I think I may not race a 400m this weekend. I would be better off either doing a hard workout or running the 800m, which helps my 400m. I would have done overdistance or tempo tonight if it weren't for this meet, so I think I'm wasting time. Not many workouts left. Saturday's meet is a big youth meet, so if I run the 800m, I won't have to leave at 6:30 am. The 800m will go later so I could probably leave about 9. Won't need too much warmup time and it would be a decent workout and give me more 800m experience, with no real chance of injury. Or, I could just stay home and do a workout. If I'm determined to get in one 400m before nationals, there is another race I could run in Murfreesboro, closer to home weekend after.
138.3 lbs after workout.
Nationals schedule is out. It's the biggest Nationals meet in 7 yrs. Over 1000 entries.
The 2-4-8 triple is very doable, even the 100 is possible. Here it is:
Thurs 7/22:
11:50 - 400m prelims
Fri. 7/23:
12:45 - 400m final
(3:50 - 100m prelim)
Sat. 7/24
(11:15 - 100m final)
1:13 - 800m final
3:15- 200m prelim
Sun. 7/25
1:21 - 200m final
Relays
Again, probably won't run the 100m, especially since I must run a 400m prelim.
Bill, to cover familiar ground, you (mark of 57.49 seconds) are one of only eight M60 400 men with a listed mark below 65 seconds, and you are second overall. Still, you must run a trial to show that you deserve to advance to the final.
ReplyDeleteI would prefer that we act to preserve everyone's time and energy (including that of the officials) by running finals on time, with you in the last section. Sadly, this idea has not been accepted.
Not to mention the heat index forecast for Fri - Sat is 100º
DeletePeter,
ReplyDeleteI agree, 400m finals on time. If you're referring to the listed seed times for 400m M60, the #1 is a fake seed. (That guy barely broke 61 a few weeks ago).
