Warm today at the Sewanee track around 5, about 80º, light winds. Generally quiet. More 800m race pace today and a neg split 400m.
Hoka trainers on
stretches, drills, 2 x 100, 50
600m - 1:41.20 (30.87, 34.70, 35.63 / 65.57, 35.63
400m - 61.44 (32.12, 29.32)
The 600m was actually faster pace than I ran my 800m 2 days ago. Too fast for race pace. At that pace, I would likely be able to run the last 200m in 38-39... which would still yield a total of 2:19-2:20. But better to be able to sprint the last 100m if necessary.
I do think this over distance is helping me, but I need to start doing some short speed, 50s and 150s. Probably next week sometime. I still think the biggest bang for my buck is hard tempo intervals and over distance. Maybe some 400m race pace 300s also.
Getting my weight under control. 138.1 lbs after workout.
Definitely have ruled out the Jacksonville, FL meet. There is a meet in Wildwood, FL on July 3 if I want one more. That would be the one if I want one more 400 before nationals.
With my fairly low volume today, I'll probably go out Sat, Sun, Tue, Thurs before the meet on Sat.
Did you pump the brakes when you realized your 30.87 first split on the 600M? If you only ran an 800 at a meet 61, 65 in the cards for you? Probable!
ReplyDeleteAlways seem to underestimate speed when starting a long sprint. Need to step it up now. Looking back at those March workouts where I did 2x600, 500, split 400. May do one of those today now that the weather has cooled... if my feet can take it.
