Glad to see that you are going to Boston, Bill. The attendance does not look all that good, and the numbers certainly look like they will trail Landover 2013 by quite a bit. Landover, as you recall, set a record for highest total at an indoor national masters (over 1000). I think the $ are quite high ($87 for two events if you enter on time, $137 for two events if you enter late). Let me put you on hold to see what it cost to enter Landover last year ... will be right back. OK, last year it was $90 for entering two events on time, and so I am wrong.
It must be the ideal location of Landover that accounts for the difference; the population within 300 miles of that site is simply staggering: New York City, New Jersey, Philadelphia and a good chunk of the remainder of Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, DC, most of Virginia, some of North Carolina. Just huge.
Anyway, I hope you do well at the big meet in Boston and I will say hello if possible. I will be the primary announcer, but the respect I get from the athletes has hit a new low, and thus I don't expect to do this much longer, although I will certainly do 2014 outdoors in Winston-Salem.
Peter, Nice to hear from you. This will likely be my last Masters Nationals til outdoor '15 when I enter M55. I really REALLY hope you are still announcing then. Although the numbers may be down, the competition in M50 400/200 looks to be faster than any indoor nationals since '11 (when M. Sullivan posted those spectacular times). All the best.
