Bike climb

Wanted to burn a few calories yesterday so I did a relaxed bike climb, keeping my HR relatively low.

Roark's cove bike climb - 26min

Avg HR - 150

Max HR - 178

HR over 170 - 5:17

Avg speed - 5.35 mph

Time for yearly blood work again Thurs morning so eating super clean and small.  Would like to get down to 140 by Thurs.

Tomorrow, running on turf.  Foot improving slightly.

Eating basically Mediterranean diet every day, thanks to Roya.  Now, without the snacking on nuts, fruit, and chocolate.

  1. The normal ranges are established with just an overnight fast so for proper interpretation the fast should be just overnight. Suggest to ask for cystatin c to be collected. Your 1.2 creatinine was very close to the upper limit and suggests kidneys are not working great. Perhaps it was biased by the extended fast, although starvation should make it lower. Cystatin is a protein found in all nucleated cells and not just muscle so it is a better predictor of kidney function than creatinine and less sensitive to lifestyle (exercise, diet) factors. Your high creatinine is probably due to muscle mass and cystatin c will answer that question. It could also be from over ingestion of protein, or creatine supplements or things ingested decades ago. Suggest also to ask for A1c as that is a very accurate indicator for your glycemic status and fasting won’t affect it. I’m sure yours is fine but having a baseline value at nearly 65 years old is a good idea and check it again in 3 to 5 years. Same with creatinine - even with normal kidney function good to get the value now as a baseline while you are still carrying a lot of muscle.

    1. Meant same as cystatin c - good to get baseline value while you still are carrying a lot of muscle. Much better test than creatinine

    2. I think fasting is very therapeutic and rejuvenating. Certainly seems to counter inflammation and probably a variety of other ills. Not to mention removing stubborn body fat. A decade ago I was once referred for a urine sample because I tested high in creatinine, but that was probably due to drinking too much black tea. My mother is said to have some sort of kidney disfunction but it hasn't manifested yet in any noticeable way. I will request a cystatin c test.

    3. Excessive ingestion of black tea could affect kidneys due oxalates.

  2. Also UPCR test is another good baseline test to have. There are a lot of cases of silent kidney disease that can be detected by this test. It measures the ratio of urine protein to urine creatinine.
